Piroxicam is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis. Because of its safety profile piroxicam should not be used as first-line therapy when NSAIDs therapy is indicated. The decision to prescribe a specialty containing piroxicam should be based on the evaluation of the overall risks for each patient.
